Over the years Record Engineering has grown substantially and evolved into a key player in the mining sector, becoming a leading supplier to numerous Original Equipment Manufacturers and large mining operations.
What we do
Engineering services and plant project management
In Kathu and the Northern Cape we primarily function as an engineering service provider for mining machinery, and manage projects directly on mining plants.
Our engineering service ranges from the assembly, rebuild and component changeout of all mining machinery — including yellow machines and telehandlers — through to equipment sales, maintenance and support-based plant design.
Additional support is available through our rental range of fleet and equipment. With an array of high quality, mine-ready machinery, this is an economic solution for the ongoing fleet requirements of our clients during repair and refurbishment.
Our history
A brief history of Record Engineering

1959
Record Engineering was founded with a focus on general repairs and the reconditioning of mining equipment.

1966
Record became one of the first companies in the Northern Cape to make tip-up doors.

1973
Record Engineering Sales was established and quickly became a leading supplier of engineering solutions and mining supplies in South Africa. A branch in Kimberley was opened.

1976
The company diversified through the acquisition of Griqua Stone Crushers and Northern Cape Stone Crushers to form Record Stone Crushers. Shortly thereafter Record Crane and Plant Hire was formed.

1990s
To develop the electronic side of the business, Control Instruments in Bloemfontein was acquired, dealing with satellite tracking, on-board computers for large fleets and access control systems.

2016
Record specialises in the rebuild and refurbishment of large earth moving equipment, alongside comprehensive mining engineering services including plant maintenance, mechanical repairs and fleet rental. A branch was established in Kathu.

2018
A growing need for expert project managers in the mining support service industry led to the formation of Record Project Engineering (Pty) Ltd, offering specialist project management within the scope of mechanical repairs and mining equipment refurbishment.
